Christmas is just a few short days away. Hopefully by now you’ve baked most of your Christmas cookies, finished wrapping gifts, and made plans with friends and relatives.
So, instead of writing a Friday Favorites post with some last minute recipe ideas, I decided to let Yellowdog take over today. She’s been dying to show you her annual Christmas cookies (for people, not dogs).
Oh, hello… Season’s Barkings!
It’s been a pretty busy year at my house, and Christmas just snuck right up on me. I didn’t even have a chance to write my annual Christmas letter this year (though, I did take some time to design our family Christmas card after spending a lot of time trying to get my parents to sit still by the Christmas tree long enough to take a family photo!). I’ve been busy inspecting the ornaments on the Christmas tree and trying to sneak into the room where my mom hides the presents (last year, I managed to find a few of my presents a week before Christmas, but this year my mom seems to have done a better job hiding them).
Even though I’ve been pretty busy poking my nose in all of the gift bags I can find, I did come up with some time to decorate cookies for the people on my gift list. They just go crazy for cookies that look like me. But, of course they do… I am pretty cute, after all.
Before we get to the cookies, though, I have to introduce you to my buddy Bowser. I guess technically he’s my uncle (since he lives at Puppy Camp with my grand-people), but I like to think of him as more of a goofy cousin. Bowser and I love to hang out together, especially when we go camping in the summer. I’ve taught him some of my best tricks, like barking at the UPS man before he even rings the doorbell. And, he recently taught me to sneak up on the futon at night. It’s a mutually beneficial relationship that we have. Plus, as you might imagine, it is much harder for my mom to say no to doggy treats when she has two sets of sad puppy eyes looking at her!
Since Bowser and I are such good buddies, I decided to let him help me with my Christmas cookies this year. Somehow, we got this crazy idea that we should be dressed up in Christmas sweaters for our cookies. It’s a completely ridiculous concept, since we always wear our fur coats. But, we knew our people would think it’s pretty cute. They are awfully easy to impress, don’t you think? Let’s just hope they don’t get any ideas and actually try to make us wear sweaters!
We got my mom to help us decorate the cookies… It turns out that people don’t like when their cookies have been pre-licked by a yellow lab and a hound dog. Who knew? She did an OK job… Can you see the resemblance? We’re hoping that these cookies will earn us a few extra slices of ham in our dog dishes after Christmas dinner. We do love ham!
On behalf of my parents, I leave you with the words of a very famous and furry Saint Bernard in a red suit (you may know him as Santa Paws)… “Puppy kisses to all, and to all a good night!”
Merry Christmas!
These are too cute! I wish I had yellow dog’s skill with royal icing!
Merry Christmas to you and yours!
Merry Christmas Yellowdog and Bowser. You did a great job on your cookie this year and I hope you save one or two for yourselves. You are right, people will think that the sweaters are adorable. I’m pretty much ready for Santa Paws, stocking is hung and I’m hoping that I get a new toy, don’t play with them much mind you but they are nice to have when company comes! Pass on my wishes to your parents for a wonderful Christmas and all the best for them (and you both) in the New Year. I know my Mom has really enjoyed your Mom’s blog this year. Remember the times your Dad even helped out. Neat! She said she looks forward to seeing what comes out of your kitchen next year…me too :) Love Maximus
Maximus –
Thanks for replying to my blog post! It’s always nice to know that there are other dogs out there reading. Enjoy your new toy for Christmas!
Love, Yellowdog
Adorable! Merry Christmas, Yellowdog!

Those cookies could NOT get any cuter!!! You are so talented. And sweet. And smart. And kind. And well, I could go on and on!
Blessings!

Oh my! The cookies are ADORABLE (along w/ Yellowdog and Bowser, of course)! I still have some cookies to make – yikes!
Just precious!
Merry Christmas
So cute! I’ll be decorating cookies today…I’m waiting for the hand cramps. If I did it more, that part wouldn’t happen.
Merry Christmas Yellowdog! You wrote such a great blog post! Please wish your lovely mom a Merry Christmas from her friend in Texas. ;)
Cute Jen! We got your card (which is adorable) and I even commented to Seth that there was no letter from Yellowdog. Must have been a busy year. We hope you and Darron have a Merry Christmas. Not sure if we’ll see you at all over the holidays. :)
Yellowdog I simply loved reading your post. I also enjoyed hearing about your partner in puppy crime, Bowser! You did an amazing job decorating your cookies and I think they look just like the two of you. Sending you all (including your parents), wonderful woofy wishes for a very Merry Christmas and very happy new year too!
OMG, these are just too cute! I need to make a Yorkie version!
So cute! I can’t show this post to Scamp or he’ll be asking to help bake next year! ;) Merry Christmas Jen :)
These are incredible cookies! My chocolate lab would be so impressed if I could make cookies that look like him. Happy holidays and don’t forget to share the ham!
I wish my mom loved me as much as yours does. She has not made me one doggone (!) treat and she also plans to leave me here, by myself, on Christmas Day. If that is not bad enough she’s going to a house with another dog, I just know it.
I don’t care if I’m old and sleep all day anyhow…it’s the thought that counts. I’m going to show her your post and guilt her into making me scrambled eggs for breakfast tomorrow; it’s my favorite thing!
Merry Christmas Yellow Dog and Bowser; tell your human the same from me too, OK? Woof woof woof.
That looks like so much fun, I know Max would enjoy it. I couldn’t leave the kitchen with him in there though – not with all the goodies setting out. It would be to tempting to him.
Jen I read this on my phone but didn’t comment at the time. This is hands down, one of the sweetest posts I have read this holiday season. Much love to you three XOX
Dear Yellowdog. MY mum really sucks at baking cookies and decorating them so *I* didn’t get any cat treats like yours. I *did* however, score some new cat food called “Tiki Girl” with flavours like “Hawaiian Luau” so I guess that counts for something. You, my friend are one lucky doggie! Much love from Cleo xox
A very cute puppy dog you have there. I enjoyed reading his description of days leading up to Christmas. I too know about those pairs of eyes. They definitely know how to use those assets.

Oh my goodness, the cuteness in this post is almost too much!! Love the cookies; you can see the resemblance to their furry counterparts hehe. Hope you had a wonderful, relaxing Christmas Jen!! :-)
