I have had a love for baking for quite some time. Growing up, I used to page through the pages of my mom’s copy of Betty Crocker’s Cooky Book (an original version, I believe) to pick a new recipe to try. After getting married, my mom bought me my own copy. The newer version of Betty Crocker’s Cooky Book was published in 2002 – a replica of the original cookbook from 1963. It has delightful recipes and pictures that take you back in time. I especially love the old photographs that are interspersed throughout the cookbook.
I still use this book on a regular basis. I often start with recipes from the cookbook and add my own twists. I love the seasonal and holiday cookies. No matter what mood I am in, I can almost always find something from this cookbook to bake.
Some of my standby recipes have come from this cookbook including:
- Ethel’s Sugar Cookies (p. 18)
- Old-Fashioned Sour Cream Cookies (p. 79)
- Gingerbread Boys (p. 79)
- Oatmeal Drop Cookies (p. 140)
- Chocolate Chip Cookies (p. 144)
I would recommend this cookbook to anyone who enjoys baking and appreciates nostalgic, time-tested recipes. It makes a great gift – especially for bridal showers/weddings, since it’s almost that time of the year!
